Mice
The House Mouse can be identified by it’s size, it is much smaller than the Black or Brown Rat species common to Ireland, an adult House Mouse actually weighs less that a young Brown Rat. However the House Mouse can be confused with the Wood Mouse (Apodemus sylvaticus), the Field Mouse (Apodemus flavicollis) and the Harvest Mouse (Micromys minutus) but these species prefer to live out doors, usually around barns, outhouses and sheds.
Mice can bring fleas, mites, ticks and lice into your home and micro droplets of mouse urine can cause allergies in children.

HABITAT & DISTRIBUTION
It is believed that the House Mouse was a wild species from the Middle East and Russia and arrived in Ireland and Britain in the 10th century BC with the spread of agriculture.
House Mice can live outdoors but are mainly a house dweller and can be found in urban and rural buildings all over Ireland. They are not found in sewers.
